August brings some of the toughest landscape conditions of the year in Northeast Florida. Extreme heat, stretches with limited rainfall, and ongoing watering restrictions continue to put stress on turf and plant material. Our teams are focused on protecting landscape health, maximizing available irrigation, and keeping your property looking professionally maintained through the peak of summer.
AGRONOMICS | Protecting Turf Through Peak Summer Stress
Our Agronomics Team is transitioning into the next phase of seasonal care following completion of our sixth treatment round. Preventative chinch bug treatments have performed well this summer, and our next application includes Acelepryn Xtra for systemic protection against chinch bugs, tropical sod webworms, and armyworms, along with micronutrients to support turf health and recovery from summer stress.
Teams continue to inspect turf, shrubs, and landscape beds for emerging pest, disease, and stress issues so they can be addressed before becoming larger problems. Monthly treatments also continue for properties enrolled in our mosquito reduction program.
IRRIGATION | Making Every Gallon Count
With watering restrictions still affecting Northeast Florida, irrigation efficiency remains especially important. Our Irrigation Team continues monthly inspections, necessary repairs, and cycle-and-soak programming to improve soil absorption and reduce runoff.
We are also coordinating irrigation closely with our Maintenance, Agronomics, and Enhancement teams, particularly around stressed turf and newly installed sod, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Systems will continue to be adjusted as weather conditions and Water Management District restrictions change.
MAINTENANCE | Staying Ahead of Summer Growth
August is one of our most demanding maintenance months. Rapid growth, extreme heat, humidity, storms, and weed pressure require our crews to remain focused on weekly mowing, edging, trimming, weed management, and detailed property care.
Properties receiving our Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) program should generally require less full hedge pruning this month, allowing crews to concentrate on touch-ups and detailed maintenance. Teams will also rotate through properties removing seed pods, hand-pulling larger weeds, and addressing other landscape details.
We’ll be watching Fakahatchee grass closely for seasonal mite activity. Where necessary, affected grasses may be cut back and treated in coordination with our Agronomics Team to encourage healthy new growth for fall.
ENHANCEMENTS | Palm Pruning & Fall Planning
August is prime time for cabbage palm pruning. Removing spent flowers and seed pods before seeds drop helps reduce unwanted palm seedlings throughout landscape beds and minimizes future maintenance.
It’s also time to begin planning fall landscape improvements. September and October projects are already being scheduled, so planning now provides time for design, budgeting, material procurement, approvals, and installation scheduling.
