Hello everyone, and welcome to your July Landscape Update from Rockaway Sustainable Landscaping. Today, we’ll cover opportunities in Agronomics, Irrigation, Maintenance, and Enhancements.
Agronomics
Our Agronomics team is finishing up our blanket application of Arena insecticide to protect turf from chinch bugs. Included with this application are nitrogen and micronutrients to support turf health and root development. Technicians will spot-treat weeds, inspect for active chinch bug activity, and monitor shrubs for insects and disease. Later this month, we’ll begin our delayed granular fertilizer applications to help turf recover from winter damage and drought stress. Most properties should continue to improve with rainfall, irrigation, and patience. If you would prefer sod replacement, please get in touch with your Account Manager for a proposal.
Irrigation
Our Irrigation Team continues monthly inspections to identify hot spots, coverage issues, and system repairs. We remain under Phase III drought restrictions and are watering one day per week with cycle-and-soak programming where possible. New landscape installations are eligible for temporary establishment watering schedules. We remain hopeful that restrictions will ease in the future and will continue maximizing every gallon of water applied.
Maintenance
July is the peak summer season in Florida. Our Maintenance Teams are working through the heat, rain, mosquitoes, and yellow flies to keep your property looking its best. Teams are focused on mowing, edging, line trimming, weed control, and overall landscape appearance. Most properties have recently completed a hedge pruning cycle and received a Plant Growth Regulator application. We have found that pruning hedges approximately four times per year instead of monthly results in healthier plants, better color, less noise, and reduced environmental impact.
Enhancements
Summer flower installations were completed at the end of June or are being installed during early July. July and August are ideal months for palm pruning, especially cabbage palms. Proper timing reduces seed production and volunteer seedlings. Our Enhancement Teams are also busy with bed renovations, entrance enhancements, sod replacement, mulching, drainage improvements, grading projects, and landscape upgrades. If you have a project in mind, please get in touch with your Account Manager. Rockaway installs and enhances landscapes year-round. Happy 250th America!
