Rockaway offers customized drainage and stormwater solutions with multiple configurations that protect the integrity of structures and the health of the landscape and environment while meeting Northeast Florida municipal permitting standards.

A first step toward good drainage is proper maintenance of your existing gutters and downspouts. Regularly inspect your drainage system, especially before the rainy season. Be sure the gutters and downspouts are free of debris and not clogged or in disrepair to ensure they can function as designed. If you find your drainage system inadequate, consider upgrading the system.

Rockaway’s standard drainage solution includes an NDS 4” corrugated pipe that attaches to the bottom of the downspout outlet and is piped away from homes and businesses underground to a pop-up emitter. NDS pipe is flexible, allowing for easy installation to the downspout adapter and through areas with obstacles, such as other pipes, tree roots, driveways, and patios in the landscape.

Factors to consider when planning the appropriate drainage solution include:

  • Dimensions of the roof and property,

  • The number of downspouts,

  • Slope of the area requiring drainage,

  • Soil type and rate of percolation of water into the substrate,

  • Percentage of property permeable surface area.

While getting water as far away from structures is an obvious consideration, it has to be done in a way that considers the drainage concerns of adjacent properties and the environment. Stormwater pollution contributes to flooding and erosion, algae blooms, sedimentation, and pollution of our freshwater supply. Rockaway is at the forefront of providers of municipally approved on-site stormwater retention systems, including swales and underground storage.
